www.dslrfilmnoob.com People always ask me to tell them what my number one most used lens is. Well with out a doubt the canon 35mm f1.4 is probably the most used lens in my collection on a crop sensor camera. The Canon 35mm f1.4 is ruffly a 55mm on a crop sensor camera making it an ideal focal length for filming. There are a few lenses in this focal length including the Canon 28mm f1.8, the Sigma 30mm f1.4, and the sigma 28 f1.8 but none of them preform quit as well as the Canon 35mm f1.4. Is the canon 35mm f1.4 worth it? If you have the money then yes, but at a price tag of almost 00 you could buy 3 mid range primes and still have a little bit of money left over. It might be better to have 3 good prime lenses then a single great lens. The Canon 35mm does preform better then any of the other lenses in this focal range, and chances are if your considering it you've probably already made the choice. If you have then you can always pick one up here: www.amazon.com Side note, I got a little lazy with this video and a few shots are blown out, but I didn't have time to go back and re shoot, sorry. Canon VIXIA HF R11 Dual Flash Memory Camcorder - 2010 MODEL: * Review: Overall, the camera performed poorly under my tests and it does not even fully capture 1080p as advertised, but actually 1664 x 936 and then goes to 1080p with software (wtf?) . It worked well under extremely brightly-lit conditions, but as soon as it was taken inside picture quality decreased to something of about 480p and was very, very, very grainy. A major problem was the lens focus, which never seemed to work properly (not just this camera, on all reviews over the net) and the battrery life at its optimum was about 30 minutes. In addition, if you listen closely you can hear the hard drive spinning in the background. Good things about the camera were a stylish, car-quality finish, a nice screen, and good microphone and headphone ports. To sum up, the camera is decent, but certainly not worth 0-0. Bottom line, the camera has poor quality resolution and doesn't shoot full 1080p...don't buy it. Pros: -good HD quality under bright conditions -stylish -great screen (swivels also) -microphone and headphone jacks are rare in this class -large 32GB storage + expansion slot (12 hours of HD) -decent zoom -compact design -reliable Cons: -noisy hard drive can be heard in video -very short battery life -poor focus sensor -not full 1080p (actually 1664 x 936) -hard to use menu with little toggle control -camera is worthless (not even 2MP and bad quality) -few manual controls -no optical image stabilization ...

www.learningdslrvideo.com I ran two test comparing the Canon T2i 550D for noise and which one could hold the highlights better. In both tests, the cameras are set to a neutral picture style with the contrast all the way down. No lighting optimizer or high light tone priority turned on. In the first test I exposed for the dolls skin, I was the back and I am about two stops under. Both are set at ISO 1600. The reason why I went 1600 is that is high as the Sony A77 will go in movie mode if you can believe that. I picked this doll from my girls collection because of the blue and green colors and I am holding the somewhat red Sony box for the third channel red to see which channel does worse with the noise. Starting with the Sony I see the blue channel is noisy but not some much noise on the green. When we look at the Canon I would say it is about a tie on the blue channel noise. Next when we look at my face and the box I think the Canon is slightly better. When we look at the digital target and you look at the gray and the black, I would say the clear winner is the Canon with noticeably less noise than the Sony A77. In the next test I wanted to see who could hold the blown out highlights better. For some reason I am having a really hard time getting the exposure right for the Sony. Normally when I fill the frame with gray part of the digital target and set the exposure for the Canon I will get perfect exposure on skin tones, but not so with the Sony. www.itbestshop.com I bought this as a successor to my Olympus C2040Z as I've had (and continue to have) great results with thats 11 year old camera which I've used to take well over 23000 pics over the years. Let's get down to the nitty gritty - image quality and performance: very disappointing. Indoor performance was a roll of the dice on any setting including auto, setting it for incandescent or fluorescent lighting, whatever seemed appropriate. I would say less than 4 out of 10 pictures taken were acceptable, even after using Photoshop to fix them. Taking the exact same shots at the same time with my 11 year old Olympus, all were fine. I took both cameras to a wedding and clicked off 211 pics with the SP600 and a friend, using my old C2040Z, clicked off roughly 100. Indoor lighting for the ceremony and reception had typical banquet hall lighting conditions and styles...not great, but something surely this technological wonder should be able to handle. Guess again. Even after spending a good deal of time in Photoshop trying to fix things, I was able to keep 17 out of 211 pics from the SP600. Same shots taken with my old Olympus....out of 100 pics, only 3 were unusable. Thinking this can't be right, I returned the SP600 and exchanged it for another, new in the sealed box. Same indoor results....very poor....from inability to focus properly to graininess to white balance being very off....you name it, it failed at it. Outdoors,up to approximately 10x zoom it works alright ...

The Consumer Electronics Fail of the Year Award goes to Canon, for introducing the new FS300 flash memory camcorder for 2010, replacing last year's FS200. So what's new? They deleted the external microphone and headphone jacks, but kept the price the same! Otherwise it is identical to the FS200, except with slightly improved image stabilization. The new FS31 also deletes the mic and headphone jacks, and also downgrades the image sensor from 1.07M to 680k pixels, compared to the outgoing FS21, but at least they dropped the price. But still, who in their right mind would settle for such a downgraded camera? The FS200 has been on sale recently for as low as US9. At that price, you can get a 16 GB flash memory card to put in it, and have a better camera overall than the new FS31, at a lower price. "New" doesn't always mean "Improved"!
